Monument works

The 65 sculptures comprising the Monument works series are conglomerates composed of a wide range of materials; the base is mostly made of different pieces of wood. The superstructures are made of PMMA, glue, ceramics, stone, plaster, acrylic and mortar. The whole was consolidated and stabilized with epoxy resins. The works are a reflection of the widespread practice, especially in the 19th century, of lending importance and grandeur to squares in urban areas with statues, usually of male protagonists, politicians, scientists, artists, poets, princes, etc. on pedestals. Although this practice has become completely compromised these days, it gave major cities a distinctive character during massive expansion in the 19th century. Today, the focus is on dealing with their decline and their re-evaluation, which can even lead to dismantling.
