Contingentia

The term contingency is derived from late Latin: contingency = possibility. Contingency in philosophy: the non-necessity of everything that exists. Contingency theory in evolution: the dependence of the long-term development of life on Earth on random events. Contingency in sociology, especially the systems theory of Niklas Luhmann and Talcott Parsons: the fundamental openness and uncertainty of human life experiences. Produced using models that students at the Institute of Architecture at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts refused to take home at the end of the semester. A six-month residency at the St. Gallen Art Foundry made the creation of the five casts possible. Awarded the 2017 Prize of the Six Cantons of Central Switzerland. Bronze, height between 140 and 240 cm.
